The magazine for ALL walkers!
About Us!
Unfortunately, Tammy was unable to enter the marathon with me, so I trained with
the help of my family. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. The 20-mile training
days were mentally grueling even with my husband walking portions with me. The
day of the 2000 U.S. Air Force Marathon in Dayton, OH, I was both excited and
nervous I would not be able to finish. Though slow, my pace was steady, I chatted
with people along the way and finished in just under 7 hours. It was the most
fantastic experience of my life! I felt as if I could do anything and it was great
hearing my kids say they were proud of me. The entire experience was life altering!
hearing my kids say they were proud of me. The entire experience was life altering!
Since then, walking has become a very important part of my life. I try to walk every
day and feel awful when I miss. I’ve completed another full marathon, many half
marathons and countless other races. My kids have entered 5Ks with me. I joined
the Buckeye Striders Walking and Racewalking Group and serve as Walking Director
of the Columbus Marathon, helping to attract walkers to this event.
Now that I've conquered long distance and feeling old, my next goals are to learn
proper racewalking form, to finish a half marathon in less than 3 hours and to hike
the Appalachian Trail.
Cindi has over 20 years of experience in publishing, serving as
editor of several small magazines. She has written, edited and
planned magazines and books of all types. Since she began
training for her first marathon in 2000, Cindi was frustrated by a
lack of print publications devoted to her new sport. Though she
read the now defunct Walking Magazine, she found it did not treat
walkers like athletes. (What does cooking a pork roast have to do
with walking?) And though she has read running magazines, they
don't really understand walkers.
Cindi's love of walking and extensive publishing background have
led her to fill the void and start this magazine. We're confident
that if you enjoy walking, you will find something you'll like here.

PowerWalk (Half
Marathon)
In my late thirties, I was terribly out of shape. Though
always thin, I could barely walk a mile and had no
muscle tone. After not being able to keep up with family
on a hike, I became very depressed. Once we were
home, I started to take short walks in the neighborhood
to get into shape. After a couple of months, my best
friend, Tammy, asked me to enter a 5K race with her. I
agreed, thinking we would stroll and chat. She left me in
the dust and I barely finished in under an hour, but I
was hooked!
Later that year, Tammy convinced me to train for a half
marathon and raise money for Team in Training. After
months of training we walked the entire course and
finished feeling great! We were both healthier than we
had been in years and decided on the spot to enter a
full marathon for my 40th birthday the next year.
