Episode 21 Podcast – Coach Carmen Talks Race Walking Shoes

I am happy to announce the return of the WALK! Magazine Podcast!

And I couldn’t think of a better topic to start with than shoes.

Yes, walkers love to talk about shoes. But we aren’t going to talk about running shoes. Today we are talking about shoes specifically for walking designed by a race walker.

I’d like to introduce you to Coach Carmen Jackinsky the inventor of Reshod walking shoes.

The Reshod race walking shoe designed by Coach Carmen Jackinsky who is a 50K race walker and designer of race walking shoes.

Carmen was a gymnast until an injury ended her career and forced her to look for a non-impact sport. She started walking – though she hated being passed by runners – and eventually learned to racewalk.

After being frustrated with running shoes that do not work for race walking, Carmen decided to design her own shoe. It took years of experimentation and testing before she came up with a design she loved.

In our conversation, Carmen talks about:

  • her athletic career as a gymnast,
  • what led to her becoming a race walker,
  • making the shoe she dreamed of a reality,
  • how to manufacture a race walking shoe,
  • her Olympic aspirations,
  • her support of getting the women’s 50K race walk in the Olympics.
