Why WALK Magazine Stopped Publishing (And Why I’m Back Now)

I still get asked about this sometimes—usually by longtime readers who remember when WALK Magazine was a regular thing. The fact is, I couldn’t do everything.
For years, I came home from my 40-hour-a-week job and spent nights and weekends writing, editing, laying out pages, coordinating contributors, and managing everything that goes into publishing a magazine.
It wasn’t sustainable. Something had to give, and unfortunately it had to be the thing that didn’t pay the bills.
I loved WALK Magazine. I loved featuring walkers and races, sharing training tips, and building a community around something I cared about. But the reality of publishing—even online publishing—is that it takes time, energy, and resources. When you’re working full-time, those are things you don’t have in surplus. I was burned out.
So I stopped. Not because I lost interest, but because I ran out of hours in the day.
Why I’m Starting Again
It turns out I needed a break. Stepping back was exactly what I needed to remember why I started to write in the first place. My enthusiasm is back—not for the grueling production schedule or the pressure to publish, but for writing about walking, fitness, and the things I care about.

This blog is what I can manage now—writing when I have something to say, sharing what I’m into, keeping things simple. It’s not a magazine, but it should be sustainable. No deadlines. No burnout. Just me, writing because I want to.
If you were a reader back then, thank you. If you’re here now, thanks for sticking around. Let’s see where this goes.
What Do You Want to See?

Yay!
I’m glad you’ve got your enthusiasm for writing back, and am looking forward to future blog posts. Training tips, stories about individual walkers, race/event coverage, and anything else you are motivated to write about will be great to read.
Thanks, Jay!
Cindy, I’m actively walking 3 to 6 miles preparing for the dominates in May. Looking forward to reading your blog for more motivation.
That’s awesome!
Why do you need a Walking magazine?! You just put one foot before another, and that’s about it?
